Madison Area Iris Society

Optional Tour

For our guests who wish to do a little sight-seeing before the official garden tours begin on Thursday, an optional tour will be available on Tuesday, June 1st.

On Tuesday, we have arranged “A Taste Of Wisconsin” tour. It will begin with a tour of The UW West Madison Agricultural Research Station Trial And Demonstration Gardens. Then we will tour of Arena Cheese where you can watch the artesian cheese makers and sample a variety of cheeses. From there we will tour the Wollersheim Winery.  The Wollersheim Winery is a national historic site which sits on a scenic hillside overlooking the beautiful Wisconsin River.  Lunch of Wisconsin brats will be served at the Winery. From there we will go to Babcock Hall, home of the Department Of Food Sciences at The University Of Wisconsin. There we can see the dairy plant and have the world’s best ice cream. Lastly, we go only a couple blocks to visit The Allen Centennial Gardens. A continuing goal of the Garden is to provide state-of-the-art demonstrations and information on the use of traditional and novel horticultural plants in diverse landscape settings.  To accomplish this goal, Allen Centennial Gardens is constantly evolving to reflect the most recent innovations in horticulture and landscaping.

The bus will leave at 7:30AM and return by 4PM.

Tours are based on demand - first come, first served and must be scheduled at time of registration, but no later than April 30th. If insufficient registrations are received for any optional tour, money will be refunded. Lunch is included in the tour fee. Ice cream at Babcock Hall is not included in the tour fee. These tours are also open to interested local gardeners who are not attending the convention. Please refer to the registration form for fees and reservation information.
